If a posted journal entry was made in error, you can void it. Voiding reverses the entry and keeps a record of why it was reversed, which preserves your audit trail.
Steps
- From the Accounting menu, open Journal Entries.
- Open the entry you want to void.
- Choose the Void action.
- Enter a void reason (this is required).
- Confirm.
The entry’s status changes to Voided, and the detail page shows the void reason, who voided it, and when.
Deleting a draft instead
If an entry is still a draft (never posted), you can delete it instead of voiding. Open the draft and choose delete; you’ll see a confirmation with the entry number.
Tip: Use void for posted entries to keep history, and delete only for drafts that were never posted.
