Fiscal Periods are the accounting periods — months, quarters, and years — that organize your financial activity. Closing and locking periods helps protect past records so they aren’t changed by mistake.
Where to find it
From the Accounting menu, open Fiscal Periods. Periods are grouped by year, with the most recent year shown first, and the current period is highlighted.
Period types and statuses
- Types: monthly, quarterly, and yearly periods.
- Open — transactions can be posted.
- Closed — the period is closed but can be reopened.
- Locked — the period is permanently locked and cannot be reopened.
Key concepts
- Quarterly status is derived from the underlying monthly periods.
- Bills and other transactions cannot be dated into a closed or locked period.
- The yearly period supports a year-end closing process.
