Service contracts let you set up recurring agreements with a customer – for example a monthly support plan – and bill them on a schedule. This article explains what contracts are and where to find them.
What a service contract is
A service contract ties one of your accounts to a set of recurring line items with a billing schedule. Each contract has a name, a start date, an optional end date, and settings that control how and when it is billed.
Where to find contracts
Open the Service Contracts area from the navigation. The list shows each contract’s number, name, account, and status, along with summary figures such as active contracts and contracts expiring soon.
Key concepts
- Status – contracts move through Draft, Pending Approval, Active, Suspended, Expired, Cancelled, and Pending Renewal. New contracts start as Draft.
- Billing period – how often the contract bills: weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual.
- Billing method – whether you bill upfront (at the start of a period) or in arrears (at the end).
- Payment terms – when payment is due: Due on Receipt, Net 15, Net 30, Net 45, or Net 60.
- Auto-renew – whether the contract renews automatically, and the renewal term and notice period.
- Item quantity types – each line item can be fixed, dynamic, or usage-based.
