Work Orders Overview

Work orders track field service jobs from request through completion. Each work order captures the customer, the service location, what needs to be done, who is assigned, when it is scheduled, and the parts and labor involved.

Where to find Work Orders

Open Work Orders under Field Service in the main navigation. The list shows each work order’s number, title, account, status, priority, and scheduled date, along with summary statistics at the top.

Key concepts

  • Work order number – a unique reference assigned automatically.
  • Account and Contact – the customer and the person to reach on site.
  • Type and Priority – classify the job and how urgent it is.
  • Status – moves through stages such as Draft, Scheduled, Dispatched, En Route, In Progress, and Completed.
  • Service address – where the work happens.
  • Assigned technician – the field employee handling the job.
  • Required skills – skills a technician needs to do the job.
  • Line items – the materials, labor, equipment, and other charges.

What you can do with a work order

You can schedule it, assign a technician, dispatch it, add notes and photos, track travel distance, update its status, and convert a completed work order into an invoice.

Tip: A work order with a scheduled date is created as Scheduled; without one it starts as Draft.
