When a lead is qualified and ready to do business, convert it. Converting turns the lead into an account and a contact, and can optionally create a deal at the same time.
What conversion does
- Creates a new account from the lead’s company (or its name or email if there is no company), or links the new contact to an existing account you choose.
- Creates a contact using the lead’s name, email, phone, and title.
- Optionally creates a deal linked to that account and contact, using the lead’s estimated value.
- Marks the lead as Converted so it drops out of your active leads list.
Steps
- Open Leads and select the lead you want to convert.
- On the lead’s detail page, find the convert option: Convert this lead into a contact and account. Optionally create a deal at the same time.
- If you want to attach the contact to an account you already have, choose that account. Otherwise leave it blank and a new account is created for you.
- To also start tracking an opportunity, select Also create a deal for this lead.
- Select Convert.
After converting, you are taken to the new contact’s page. The original lead now shows This lead has been converted.
Warning: A lead can only be converted once. If it has already been converted, you will see a message saying so and no new records are created.
